75 Duchess
This beautiful eight and a half year old girl came to our attention when someone sent us her video on FaceBook. She was suffering greatly, as she was incredibly sick and alone in a very crowded county shelter. Her previous owners had been talked out of euthanizing her by some good Samaritan who begged them to give her a chance at adoption. So they took this sick girl and dropped her off at the local county shelter. Lucky for her, we saw the video and raced to her rescue. Turns out, she was suffering from a very severe urinary tract infection. So severe, in fact, that she was urinating blood. We got her immediate medical attention and within a couple of days, our pretty girl began to feel much better!
Currently, Duchess is grossly overweight. This, along with what looks like a previously broken tail, may have contributed to her urinary tract infection. In foster care, Duchess has already lost a few pounds and already feels a bit lighter. Her new adopting family will need to keep her on her regimen of healthy dog food only (no snacks) and a daily walk around the neighborhood. But because of her weight, she won’t be able to run, as there is a danger she could severely damage her bones or tissues in her legs or hips. We can tell she wants to though… Just wait until the proper diet and daily walks pay off. After she loses 15 to 20 pounds, she’ll be able to run and play with the best of them!
Duchess knows quite a few commands, which include sit, come, and out. She is very well behaved in the house and must have had a doggie door in her previous house, as she took right to it. She also walks fairly well on a leash. Small children seem to startle her easily, so a household with older children would probably be best. She loves car rides, gets along very well with other dogs, and absolutely loves to cuddle. She’s an incredibly sweet, playful girl with many years left and a very loving soul who needs (and deserves) a wonderful forever home.
